Employees of SECURE Energy Services took part in the Pathway and River Cleanup Event in partnership with the City of Calgary on Sunday, May 6th, 2012.
The initiative got started in 1967 by 12-year-old Sandra Crawford. While walking along the Elbow River that spring she noticed a mattress lying along the river’s edge. She tried to pull it out on her own, but wasn’t successful. Upset about the negligence and disrespect given to the area, she wrote a letter to the Calgary Herald, which ultimately prompted a Call to Action.
Over the last 45 years, thousands of volunteers in the city of Calgary have dedicated their time and efforts to cleaning up our rivers and pathways during this annual event.
Everyone at SECURE was excited to be involved in this community event for the first time ever and take part in green incentives supporting the parks and rivers that make Calgary home.
